 Sport Safeguarding BC is built on a foundation of principles that guide how we design our services and support safe sport across the province.    

Alignment

We promote clear, consistent standards across amateur sport in British Columbia, working collaboratively with partners across the Canadian sport system to strengthen coordination and share knowledge.

Cultural Safety

We are committed to creating a system that recognizes and addresses systemic biases, and respects the diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences of all participants.  

Independence

We operate independently from sport organizations to ensure trust, fairness, and integrity—free from real or perceived conflicts of interest.  

 Safeguarding

We prioritize the safety, health, and well-being of all individuals, with particular attention to those who may be vulnerable to harm.  

Transparency

We are open and clear about how our system works, how decisions are made, and how individuals can access our services.  

Trauma-Informed

Our approach recognizes the impacts of trauma and is designed to ensure all interactions are safe, respectful, and supportive, helping to prevent re-traumatization.
